Tony Buckley
with his Atama Starclassic Maple kit with Zildjian Cymbals

Tony Buckley

Our drummer
and part time communications assembler, Tony, had a bumpy start along the road to drumming perfection. Having first got his hands on a kit whilst 17, Tony proceeded to delight his neighbours and parents as he got to grips with what was to become one of his loves in life.

Some of his early influences included Bill Ward (Sabbath), John Bonham (Zeppelin), Ian Paice (Deep Purple) and Roger Taylor (Queen) and gave Tony the drive to join several bands and become a regular face at numerous local jamming sessions.

With no luck to date in a successful band, Tony formed Fore 10 and played heavy rock for a year before the goup dispersed. It wasn't long before Tight But Loose erupted onto the scene. Based out of Banbury and featuring a female vocalist, the group covered original music, with a twist and gained quite a following before the vocalist decided to move on, abruptly terminating the band.

Still determined, Tony soldiered on to play a part in Deeds, Joe Kidd and most notably Canada, a Brian Adams tribute act. The band worked performed throughout the midlands and achieved mild success.

Until he came across Garry and Mark at an informal jam in their garage in 2003...

Mark Kelly
with his Gibson Les Paul Classic guitar through a Marshall Tube amp

Mark Kelly

Mark keeps us in time, on time, everytime and is also one of our guitarists, not a big surprise as he's a technical co-ordinator by day!

Marks first tentative strums began when he was 10, on an acoustic guitar he'd managed to acquire for £7! Luckily for him, his parents encouraged their budding musician and soon he was being taught spanish classical guitar each week. Not knowing quite in which direction his music wanted to take him, a few years down the line Mark decided to abandon his guitar for the next 18 years!

His musical tastes reignited by Mr Gary Moore playing 'Still Got the Blues' on the radio during 1993, Mark was soon back in the swing of things and under the tuiton of Lance Perkins (Guitar Works). Soon rock music began to feature prominently in his playing, including tunes by Free, Boston and Thin Lizzy.

Secure in the knowledge that rock music was where he wanted to be, Mark bought a
Gibson Les Paul guitar and a Marshall Stack amp. After years of enjoying himself in bands and at jam sessions, Mark was on the move when he met Garry and promptly joined Torque.

Garry Diston
with his Gibson Les Paul Custom and Ibanez Prestige guitars through a line 6 amp

Garry Diston

Our lead guitarist and daylight vehicle technician, Garry, has had a taste for tunes since he was at school. Having been located whilst shirking off PE, the teacher that found him strumming his guitar turned out to be a guitar enthusiast and instead of detention.

Soon Garry became a member of the school band, supplying music for production such as 'Jesus Christ Superstar' the rock opera version. Renditions of AC/DC, Status Quo and Motorhead were soon to be heard from his Hondo Explorer or Flying V guitars. After school, Garry's jamming partners dispersed as jobs took over.

A quiet spell followed, with Garry performing infrequently at local pubs or 'Bedroom Gigs'. Tired of so little musical activity, Garry decided that it was about time to start a band, they were allowed the use of his dad's garage, where Garry, his brother Terry and a school friend on the bass, has a couple of jamming sessions, but no group was formed.

Deciding to refocus, Garry left his guitars and moved on with his life in other directions, until he was invited to a gig by a friend. Soon he was the proud owner of an Ibanez guitar and was happily strumming away.

His dream of playing in a band started materialising in June 2003, when he discovered a similar passion in one of his customers, Mark. Not long afterwards, Torque was formed.

Toby Webb
on vocals and some times guitar

Toby Webb

A member of the management team for the local garden centre, Toby, our vocalist and some time guitarist, was inspired by the Blues Brothers whilst still at school, moving him to form a tribute band.

Having failed to teach Toby guitar before the Blues Borthers appeared on Toby's horizon, his father then joined in vocally at their jamming session. Needless to say, an advert was soon placed for a singer for their tribute band. Unfortunately, his position as guitarist was usurped by their 'vocalist' and Toby had to learn to sing.

'No Respect' was formed a couple of years later, covering old rock favourites for the band's 3 year life.

Slightly static for the folowing few years, Toby remained loyal to his cause and often practised with various groups and at numerous jamming sessions. Moving back to his home town, 'No Respect' was brought back with a new line up and an alliance with Steve Spiders (Sedgeberrow Recording Studios) was forged. Sadly, the bass player moved on and the group didn't.

The next few years say Toby back on the guitars and strumming his vocal chords at any local jam session, until he started hearing rumours of 'some local rock band' and decided to sniff them out...

Terry Diston
on his Wesley 4 four string guitar through a Torque amp

Terry Diston

Our Bass guitarist
, Terry, shares his ;passion for rock music with his passion for bikes. A performance bike parts manufacturer, Terry originally aimed to become a sound engineer before his love of bikes took over.

Able to handle both his passions, Terry often DJed at his local rock pubs and was frequenlt to be heard at local jamming sessions. His travels and gigs brought him into contact with local band Stimulator and he then became a roadie, affording Terry the chance to toy with the drums and bass guitar on the sound check.

Meeting many well known rock legends along the way, including John Lydon and Lemmy, Tarry decided that life in a band was made for him andhe began jamming in earnest with anyone that would have him.

Already a valued member of Torque, Terry was in charge of tea and sound levels until their 5th bass player announced thjat he was off, leaving Torque in the lurch. Seizing his opportunity, Terry aquired a bass guitar and was soon well at home on the strings.

Borrowing tunes from a friend, Terry was soon well up to scratch and finally joined Torque as one of the band.

“ Loudest, most professional, fun, enigmatic show seen in a long time!”
